Small electrical jobs in London

Need a light fitted, a socket replaced, a fault investigated or an extractor fan installed? MA Electricals welcomes small private jobs across London and gives every job the same careful attention.

Plenty of homeowners put off a small electrical job for months. The socket by the kettle has been loose since the summer, there is a light fitting still in its box in the hallway, and the bathroom fan has been making a noise since March. The jobs are too small to feel urgent, and it is hard to find someone willing to come out for one.

MA Electricals takes that work. A single socket is not an inconvenience — it is a normal part of the week, and it is done to the same standard as a full installation.

Jobs we are asked for most

  • Fitting lights, including fittings you have bought yourself
  • Replacing sockets that are cracked, loose or scorched
  • Replacing switches, or moving one to a more sensible place
  • Adding extra sockets so the extension leads can go away
  • Fault finding when something has stopped working
  • Extractor fans in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms
  • Smoke alarms, including mains-powered interlinked alarms
  • Cooker connections and appliance outlets
  • Outdoor sockets for the garden, the mower or the car
  • Minor electrical repairs of most kinds

Signs it is worth calling now rather than later

A small electrical job stops being small when it is left. These are the ones not to sit on:

  • A socket or plug that feels warm, is discoloured, or smells of burning
  • A socket or switch that is loose in the wall, or cracked
  • A light that flickers, or one that only works if you jiggle the switch
  • A breaker that trips when you use one particular appliance
  • Exposed wiring anywhere it can be touched

If you have any of the above, stop using that socket or circuit and call. Do not attempt to open it up or repair it yourself.

Why a small job still needs a proper electrician

The work behind a socket front is the part that matters. A fitting that has been screwed back on to a damaged cable, an added socket spurred off a circuit that cannot carry it, or a fan wired without the right isolation will all look finished and still be wrong.

Every job — including a ten-minute one — is carried out to the 18th Edition wiring regulations, tested, and left safe. That is the whole point of calling someone rather than guessing.

Bought the fitting already?

That is fine, and common. Bring it out of the box before we arrive so we can see what it needs — some decorative fittings, in particular heavy pendants and chandeliers, need more support than the existing ceiling rose can give. We will tell you before we start if that is the case.
